Everlasting Love - Cupid and Psyche Necklace

Handcrafted from an antique intaglio from the 1700-1800's, this talisman features Cupid and Psyche – symbols of everlasting love.

Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, was very jealous of Psyche, the most beautiful woman in Sicily, and asked her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with a horrible monster. When Cupid saw how beautiful Psyche was, he dropped the arrow meant for her and pricked himself and fell in love with her. Cupid visited her every night to sleep with her, but demanded that she never cast her eyes upon him. Curious, Psyche held a lamp over Cupid as he slept, but a drop of oil fell from her lamp onto Cupid's shoulder and woke him. She watched him fly away, and she was heartbroken.

After passing various tasks given to her by Venus, Cupid and Psyche were reunited. Jupiter made Psyche a goddess allowing Cupid and Psyche to get married and they lived happily ever after.

The talisman is a 1” x 1 ¼” rectangle and hangs from either a 14k gold-filled short-long cable chain when done in bronze or a sterling silver short-long cable chain when done in fine silver with a lobster clasp closure. The entire necklace measures 18” long.
